Labor and delivery (L&D) nurses have the unique job of delivering healthy babies and guiding mothers safely through labor, but they do so much more than that. According to Nurse.org, labor and delivery nurses coach mothers through painful contractions, monitor both the baby and the mother’s tolerance for labor, and stay alert for any potential medical complications that can occur.
Labor and delivery nurses also administer medications and assist physicians or midwives with the actual delivery. Following the birth, they care for the newborns and help new mother-baby pairs with breastfeeding.
L&D nurses play a pivotal role in welcoming new lives into the world. The median salary for all RNs is $67,490, with L&D nurses falling within that range. States with the highest annual nursing salaries include California, Washington DC, and New Jersey. Hospitals throughout the United States need good L&D nurses, and that’s where Stability comes in.
